Spring Sonnet 4: Slamming the Door

lazy rain slouches on the gray pavement
as i curl into the suede pillows and arms
phone lifted above Aztec burnt orange prints
listen to a man leaving the apple for a farm.

'i can't stand the rudeness, the weather, and expense.
NYC overrated and I'm done
over-educated with no common sense
takes too much out of me to have plain fun.

'it takes too much money to go out
takes too much energy to sit and wait
too many mind games to fight off the doubt
driving at 70 to get out of this goddamn state.

points heard too many times, i can't argue
as i sigh and look out at that iconic view.
