Dispassionate Dialogue about our Democracy on the 4th of July

Dispassionate dialogue. In high school debate we were taught how to engage in dispassionate analysis and conversation, aka removing my emotions and prejudice from the news. My sister asked for my dispassionate view on our freedom weekend…

1. Trump’s big beautiful bill passed and it’s hated by most ppl in all parties. But Americans have the attention span of gnats and most of the heinous things are set to kick a year from now, when ppl will have forgotten. It’s quite smart to hide the poison you’re going to kill ppl with so the GOP can find a scapegoat next year for the disaster they created. It will be the Dems job to be just as Machiavellian as the GOP when they associated every paper cut from 2008-2016 as Obama’s fault with its snarky ‘thanks Obama.’ If Dems have even a shred of msging ability left (which remains in doubt) every single bad thing that happens needs to be connected to this budget bill. Because the truly bad things in this Project 2025 budget bill have been hidden from the short-attention-span voter. The messaging war begins now. It rained on your wedding day? Thanks Project 2025 budget! You ruined my marriage!
2. 25 little girls died in Texas flash foods because NOAA budget was cut by DOGE. Budget cuts literally kill. And stastically they will kill more ppl before the year is out. And…
3. Elon Musk announced that he’s starting up a third party…aka Ross Perot. There’s one problem: everyone hates him. Perot at least had a folkism that appealed to older white voters. Musk lives in the curated algorithmic echo chamber of his own engineers so he thinks a Twitter poll represents the ppl. And…
4. A third party funded by a billionaire will hurt GOP more than Dems. Even though the GOP loathe Musk he can use social media to depress young male vote in close elections next year. Therefore…
5. Trump will pin all of DOGE on Musk. Tragedy, death, mayhem…it will be Musk who did it. In trying to save themselves the GOP will go along, therefore…
6. If Musk continues on his 3rd party temper tantrum, DOJ and FBI will launch investigations into Musk, all his businesses, and DOGE. Congress will launch investigations into Musk. It will be a warning shot to other billionaires. Suddenly they will discover ‘you missed a comma on your immigration paperwork. Are you even an American?’ Also hurting Musk plays into something fundamental to US politics..
7. Trump loves loves LOVES screwing over friends and allies. It’s the psychological quirk of malignant narcissists. They get a thrill out of making you kill for them and pinning the murder on you. It’s like sprinkles on top of their gelato. Ask Michael Cohen or Jeff Sessions. Or Giuliani. Trump has destroyed the lives of countless contractors who worked for him and built his hotels because it is the height of pleasure for a psychopath. And yes i mean that sexually and mentally. Psychopaths loves suckers and fools, and yet…
8. White rural americans will continue to not get the message. The message has to be taught to them. I know you think its FAFO season or ‘the leopard ate my face’ time but cause and effect does not compute with ppl whose sense of identity is based in ethnic tribalism. Its never been that way. Sense of identity and purpose is more important than facts. Always. Measles are spreading through Texas because ‘not getting vaccinated’ is associated with freedom, despite science or facts. Therefore, Trump could spit in their face and they will think it’s rain. Kamala Harris could give them a check and they would see it as spit. Messaging and changing ppl’s context of identity is the only way to change rural America.
9. Dems will put on overalls to appeal to rural America. Think Nancy Pelosi kneeling in a kente cloth but the Iowa State Fair version of it. Rural voters will hate it and continue voting for the guy gutting them like a fish and bragging about it.
