ROYAL COURT INTERNATIONAL PLAYWRIGHTS GROUP

Since 1989 the Royal Court Theatre has collaborated with emerging playwrights from all parts of the world, working in over 70 countries and in more than 40 languages. The International Playwrights Group (formerly the International Residency) is part of this program that offers the opportunity for international playwrights to spend time at the Royal Court Theatre in London, developing a new play. It also offers international theatre artists a forum to meet and work with leading British writers, directors and performers.
In summer 2014, five international playwrights will be invited to London to take part in a focussed, residential writers group, working with members of the Royal Court Theatre artistic team from 2 to 19 July 2014 (inclusive).
Program
International playwrights will be asked to develop a new play during their time in London in collaboration with members of the Royal Court artistic team. Writers will follow an intensive program that combines group sessions led by leading British theatre makers with individual one-to-one meetings. Each playwright will be teamed with a Royal Court script advisor and translator who will work with them to help realize their new play. There will also be an opportunity to share work with the rest of the group in a workshop environment.

The International Playwrights Group is the latest incarnation of the Royal Court Theatre’s development work with international writers in London. This started in 1989 as the Summer School before becoming the International Residency for Emerging Playwrights from 1993 with support from the British Council. This evolution has taken many forms, focusing ever more closely on international playwrights and their plays.
The Royal Court Theatre may seek funding for successful candidates in order to pay for their participation. Playwrights may be asked to help in researching and applying for grants available in their home countries. Please note that acceptance on International Playwriting Residencies is NOT dependent on funding.
Playwrights will be expected to write in their mother tongue and this work will be translated by the Royal Court. However, participants will need to have a good working knowledge of English as all meetings and group sessions will be conducted in English.
International travel, subsistence and accommodation will be provided by the Royal Court Theatre. Accommodation is self-catering, within walking distance or a short bus ride from the theatre. The Royal Court Theatre will also reimburse any UK entry visas costs.

Many new and exciting theatre projects have evolved in different parts of the world as a result of these programs, including seasons of new international work at the Royal Court which have often included the work of former participants. The Royal Court Theatre is one of Europe’s leading theatres, which since 1956 has presented a program of new and innovative drama that has become known throughout the world. HBO ACCESS
Deadline: March 3rd
HBOAccess™, is a new four-week program created by HBO to provide project development, master classes and mentoring opportunities to emerging filmmakers, will begin accepting applications today. Open to diverse filmmakers who can demonstrate knowledge of camera and scripts, the competition will culminate with the selection of up to four filmmakers, each of whom will be given a budget to create short-form content for HBO.
All submissions must be entered through Without A Box and require a resumé or bio and one narrative directing sample (full-length feature, short or webisode, no reel). For more information on eligibility, please visit withoutabox.com.
Timeline and Important Dates:
Feb. 3, 2014 – Application process opens at withoutabox.com.
March 3, 2014 – Application process closes (or on the date upon which submissions reach the cap of 500 applicants, whichever comes first).
March 2014 – 20 candidates will be chosen to advance to second-round interviews (conducted in person or via Skype). Candidates will be expected to discuss their project in detail. Additionally, candidates must own and assign to HBO all rights necessary to develop and produce their idea.
May 8, 2014 – Four finalists are notified.
June 3, 2014 to June 26, 2014 – HBOAccess™ program is held in Los Angeles. (Participants must live in area during the entire program and production period, and travel and accommodations are their responsibility.)
Upon acceptance into the program and agreement to the rules, the selected candidates will be paired with an HBO development executive who will serve as his/her mentor throughout the process. Together, the filmmaker and executive will develop the project submitted during the application process. HBO will provide a series of master classes taught by HBO executives and creative talent.
At the completion of the four-week development process, each project will be considered for production as a 10-15 minute film or a series of webisodes to air on various HBO platforms including, but not limited to, HBO GO®, HBO, HBO’s YouTube channel, HBO.com, film festivals, charity screenings and other outlets.

Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship

Nickelodeon is offering writing fellowships in live action and animated television to writers with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Participants will have hands-on interaction with executives writing spec scripts and pitching story ideas. The program, developed to broaden Nickelodeon's outreach efforts, provides a salaried position for up to one year.

Houston Family Arts Center
Deadline: November 14th
Houston Family Arts Center is looking for a new, unproduced play to premiere as part of its 2015-2016 season.  HFAC produces “family-friendly” plays – not “children’s theatre,” but contemporary or period plays which do not contain strong language or adult themes. Some plays that HFAC has produced that fit into these parameters include "Over The River and Through the Woods" by Joe DiPietro, "A Raisin in the Sun," by Lorraine Hansberry, The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlo"Death by Design" by Rob Urbinai, and "Driving Miss Daisy" by Alfred Uhry.
Please submit a synopsis, character breakdown and 20-page sample to Artistic Director Teri Clark at teri.clark@houstonfac.com .  The deadline is November 1, 2014. The selected playwright will be brought to Houston for the opening.

THE DOUGLASS WALLOP FELLOWSHIP

The Douglass Wallop Fellowship at Washington College is awarded in odd-numbered years to a playwright. The Fellowship enables drama students at Washington College to work with and learn from successful playwrights like J.T. Rogers and KJ Sanchez, who spend several days on campus.

The Douglass Wallop Fellow spends approximately five days at Washington College, holding individual conferences with drama students. The Fellow also gives a public reading and a craft talk. The Fellowship includes a $2500 stipend, overnight accommodations, and travel.
The Fellowship is named for the American novelist and playwright Douglass Wallop (1920-1985). He was the author of 13 works, the most famous being The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant (1954), which went on to be adapted by Wallop and co-writer George Abbott into the Tony Award-winning musical “Damn Yankees.” Wallop himself graduated from the University of Maryland and for many years lived on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
Applicants should send a cover letter (outlining qualifications and reasons for interest in position) as well as a sample of their work to Assistant Director Lindsay Lusby. Work samples may be a full play or selected scenes from a larger work. It is preferred that writing samples be no more than 20 pages. Mail application materials to:

Edward Albee Foundation: Summer Residency

The Foundation maintains the William Flanagan Memorial Creative Persons Center (better known as "The Barn") in Montauk, on Long Island in New York, as a residence for writers and visual artists of all media.

The Center is open from mid-May through mid-October, and can accommodate comfortably up to five persons at a time. Residencies are for 4 or 6 week periods of time. The standards for admission are, simply, talent and need.

Located approximately two miles from the center of Montauk and the Atlantic Ocean, "The Barn" rests in a secluded knoll which offers privacy and a peaceful atmosphere.  The Foundation expects all those accepted for residence to work seriously and to conduct themselves in such a manner as to aid fellow residents in their endeavors.  Writers are offered a room; visual artists are offered a room and studio space.  Residents are responsible for their food, travel, and other expenses.  The environment is simple and communal.  Residents are expected to do their share in maintaining the condition of "The Barn" as well as its peaceful environment.

The Foundation is pleased to accept applications AFTER JANUARY 1, 2014 for the 2014 Summer Season; applications must be post-marked no later than March 1st, 2014 and must arrive--through the mail--no later than March 8th.

2014 TRUSTUS PLAYWRIGHTS’ FESTIVAL

Trustus Theatre Announces its Annual Playwrights’ Festival, a National Contest Culminating in the Professional World Premier of an Original Play.
Now in our 25th year, we’re one of America’s longest-running play festivals. Since 1988, many of our winners have been published and produced off-Broadway, in Hollywood or at the Actors Theatre of Louisville.

THE WINNING PLAY will receive a staged-reading at our 2015 Festival and $250. During the following year, the playwright will develop the script for production as he/she wishes and in
consultation with members of the Trustus staff and company. In August, 2015, the play will receive a full production--and the playwright an additional $500, plus travel/lodging for the Festival opening.

Full-length plays only, with no previous professional productions. Academic productions and workshops are okay. We’re looking for innovative comedies and dramas on any topic, raw or polished, profane or polite—but please: no musicals or children’s shows.

Step One:
By March 1, 2014, e-mail shammond@trustus.org a query package containing the following items:
-An eight to ten page selection from the play. Do not send the full script.
-A 100-200 word synopsis, development history (if any), and cast breakdown, noting any special casting requirements.
-A resume or short bio.
-Name, address, phone number, and title of the play must be included in the body of the e-mail message.

DJERASSI RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Deadline: March 15th
APPLICATION DEADLINE: The next application deadline to apply is March 15, 2014 for a residency in 2015.

The Program is located on a 580-acre former cattle ranch in the Santa Cruz Mountains, 40 miles south of San Francisco. The secluded property encompasses vast grasslands with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, cascading creeks, and woodlands thick with towering redwoods, ageless coastal oaks, and twisting madrone. Miles of hiking trails lead artists-in-residence to more than 40 site-specific sculptures created on the land by former residents.

The Djerassi Program is no longer accepting paper applications. Artists working in all genres should go to https://djerassi.slideroom.com for specific instructions on completing an application for residency.You may also use the Apply link on the left
ELIGIBILITY AND RE-APPLICATIONS: National and International visual artists, composers, choreographers, media artists, and writers are eligible. Alumni must wait three seasons before reapplying for a return residency. Example: 2013 residents can reapply for the 2017 residency season. Artists who were placed on alternate status may reapply for the next season. Please note the application form, resume and all support materials must be in English. Students are not eligible for residencies.
ADMISSIONS PANELS: Invitations for residencies are extended based on evaluations made by panels consisting of artists and arts professionals in each discipline. The panels meet once a year to review applicants within those disciplines. Panelists are rotated each year. Approximately 85 artists are selected each year to work on independent or collaborative projects.

PROCESSING FEE: A nonrefundable processing fee of $45 is required with each application. Media uploads are included in this fee. The fee is to be paid by credit card at the end of the on-line application process in slideroom.
NOTIFICATION: Applicants will be notified in September of the year they applied.
ARTISTIC DISCIPLINES: There are five categories.

SCIENTIFIC DELIRIUM MADNESS: Session 3, June 30- July 29 * Scientific Delirium Madness*, a special initiative of Djerassi Program in collaboration with LEONARDO/ISAST. Djerassi will host 6 scientists and 6 creative artists whose work explores the continuum of art and science for a special 30 day residency.
If your work is informed or grounded by biology, physics, mathematics, geology, chemistry, agriculture or environmental science, please INCLUDE Session 3 among your prioritized session choices. Residents during this session are expected to participate in the Annual Open House AND may be asked to share their experience in an academic-style conference. IF YOUR WORK IS NOT TIED TO SCIENCE, PLEASE DO NOT SELECT SESSION 3.

COLLABORATIONS: Artists who plan to collaborate during the residency must submit individual applications. Work space needs should be clearly specified (i.e. whether or not separate studios are required). Also indicate if you are interested in attending as an individual artist.

COUPLES: Couples must apply separately with the understanding that each applicant will be reviewed separately by their discipline’s panel. If both artists are selected, we will make every effort to schedule you at the same time and arrange appropriate accommodations. Separate studios will be assigned unless otherwise requested. Please note on your applications if you would like to share the same living quarters.
CHOREOGRAPHY APPLICANTS: Choreographers may request to have one DANCER in residence or request the time alone. This should be noted in the extended work plan on the Panel Review Form.
GUESTS: Accommodations are limited to selected individual residents only. No accommodations for spouses, partners, or children are available. Friends or family who are in the area for brief visits cannot be accommodated overnight at the facility. They are welcome for day visits and dinner at the ranch. No personal pets are allowed.
GERALD OSHITA MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP FOR COMPOSERS: Contributed by an anonymous donor, the Fellowship is designated for a composer of Asian, African, Latino, or Native American ethnic background. The Oshita Fellow receives a one-month Djerassi Program residency, during which the recipient is free to compose, study, rehearse, and otherwise advance his or her own creative projects, plus cash stipend.

Tofte Lake Center Emerging Artists Program

TLC sponored its 4th annual Emerging Artists Program in 2013 which enables both individual creative artists and a collaborative team of artists to take time and attention to focus on their current work.  This program subsidizes 2 week-long residencies for 7 emerging artists from the Minnesota and the 5 boroughs of New York, and 1 week-long residency for a performing arts project that would have exclusive use of the facilities. Please note that applicants must live in either MN or one of the 5 NYC boroughs to be eligible to apply.

The residencies at TLC are intentionally interdisciplinary in nature. Artists from several disciplines can apply: playwriting, poetry, prose writing, painting, music composition, and dance.  We would be happy to accept applicants who sculpt, produce films, are photographers, work with crafts; we are, however, more limited in terms of the materials we can provide.  The underlying philosophy is to provide space and means of support for individual artists wishing to further their creative endeavors in the visual, literary or performing arts. The dramaturgical assistance of TLC director Liz Engelman is available if desired.

There are 7 sleeping areas in four cabins.  2 cabins are solo cabins, the other five sleeping areas are either bedrooms or lofts in shared cabins.  Each artist will have his/her own room/loft.

JAMES TAIT BLACK PRIZE

Submissions are now open for the James Tait Black Prize for Drama 2014.
Theatre companies and agents are invited to submit scripts to the Department of English Literature by 7 February 2014.
The winner of the £10,000 annual award will be announced in August.
The National Theatre of Scotland will present extracts of the shortlisted plays as a reading at The Traverse Theatre during the August festivals in Edinburgh.
Eligible plays are those over sixty minutes in playing time, originally written in English (including all standard and non-standard varieties) Scots or Gaelic, first produced between 1 January and 31 December 2013, and performed by a professional company for more than six performances.
A typed copy of the script must be sent with details of the first production, which should include venue, company and date. Where possible, proof of production should be sent such as a flyer, review etc.
The submissions must come from the producing company or the agent of the playwright. The playwright must have been commissioned formally by a professional organisation using a contract recognised by an industry regulator within the country of production (e.g. in the UK, the Theatrical Management Association (TMA), Equity, Independent Theatre Council (ITC) or Federation of Scottish Theatre).

The production must have had a full production by a professional company using professionally contracted personnel.

Dora Maar Fellowship (MFAH)

Want to get away? How about 1-3 months in France to write and study whatever you want? Dora Maar Fellowship is an excellent opportunity for all artists and the application is online. The Dora Maar Fellowship is set in Menerbes, France in a house bustling with arts and thinkers. The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston (MFAH) sponsors the Dora Maar fellowship and pays for round-trip ticket to France as well as a $50/day stipend for food. Additionally there you have your own bedroom, bathroom, and share a communal kitchen.  
The Brown Foundation Fellows Program at the Dora Maar House is made possible through a grant from the Brown Foundation, Inc., in Houston. The program has been directed by the MFAH since 2006.

The MFAH wants you to enjoy the opportunities this remarkable residence affords, and to use your time well. Fellows are encouraged to offer suggestions on how the museum can improve the fellowship program in the future.

As a Dora Maar fellow, you are expected to be friendly toward the citizens of Ménerbes and to make one public presentation to them. Each fellow is required to donate to Dora Maar House one drawing, publication, or other work created during the residency. The MFAH asks that you recognize The Brown Foundation Fellows Program at the Dora Maar House in the acknowledgments of any publication resulting from your fellowship.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL: EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO KNOW

Ice&fire is look for plays that are surprising, timely, entertaining and powerful.
Everyone Has the Right is a scheme supported by Amnesty International UK and encourages writers exploring human rights stories to create compelling and thought-provoking theatre.
We look for plays that are surprising, timely, entertaining and powerful. We seek out unique voices and new talent – writers who are not afraid to tackle the big questions.
OUR NEW SCRIPT POLICY:
To be included in this scheme, plays must examine human rights issues as a central and deliberate theme.  We therefore are unlikely to consider plays, for example, that deal with issues of personal freedoms without placing them in a wider political and social context, or where the responsibility for the oppression does not lie with the state or related powers.
In our experience, plays that have not been written with an express mission to explore human rights will not be appropriate for this scheme.
If the play meets the Everyone Has the Right criteria, and if a member of the ice&fire script-reading team feel it is a play that has the potential to be a successful and dynamic production, the writer will receive feedback in terms of plot, dialogue, characterization and its overall effectiveness as a piece of theatre.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT:
Some of the writers receiving feedback will be invited to work with ice&fire to develop their plays towards production, receiving one-to-one dramaturgical support and facilitated script workshops with other writers in the scheme.
Previously, the best plays have received professional rehearsed readings at a partner theatre, or at Amnesty International UK’s central London Human Rights Action Centre. Many of these plays have then been picked up for professional productions at some of London’s most prestigious venues.
SUBMISSIONS:
Our new guidelines above have been refined to reflect our experience of running the scheme since 2006. Please consider carefully whether your script is likely to meet our new criteria.
If so, we accept completed plays, in English, written for the stage, which have not been professionally produced in the UK. Plays can be of any length and for any age group. Manuscripts must be sent to us by post. There is no deadline for submission.

ARGOS PRODUCTION
Deadline: Feb. 15th

We are seeking submissions of new plays for our Fourth Season. We are most interested in projects for production that will involve the playwright as an active participant - attending auditions, rehearsals, and design meetings. 
We are accepting FULL LENGTH SCRIPTS ONLY. Please do not send ten-minute plays, one-acts, or script samples. Please note we are not accepting submissions for musicals at this time. Plays submitted may have a production history if significant rewrites have been made since the last production.
While we do not exclude out-of-area writers from sending their work to us, please note we will only consider out-of-area scripts for production and none for development. Also note we are heavily partial to working with writers in the greater Boston area. 
Our submission window this year is September 27, 2013 - February 15, 2014. 
Response time will vary depending on the script you send. Production-ready scripts will receive a reply no later than April 15, after submission season. Plays sent for development have an open-ended response time.

Red Bull
Deadline: March 8th
Six short plays will be selected from an open-submission process and presented in staged readings along side two short plays by commissioned writers (past writers have included Constance Congdon, Elizabeth Egloff, David Grimm and John Guare). Plays will be selected based on relevance to Red Bull Theater’s mission, incorporation of stated theme and excellence of the work.

The Drill
Write a short play of no more than 10 minutes in length that contains heightened language, verse, classical themes, or is an adaptation of a classical story. This year, each play must respond to the following word:
GREED
Take a look through  to see the kind of work we have done. Respond to a play we’ve produced or choose a classic of your own. Adapt something, or riff on a character, or borrow a language structure, or create a whole new world based on classical themes.
The Rules
• Each playwright may submit ONE SCRIPT only.
• Each play may be no more than TEN PAGES in font no smaller than 11pt.
• We ONLY accept electronic submissions in PDF form. Do not mail printed scripts.
• INCLUDE writer contact information on the title page.
• Plays should be self-contained with a beginning, middle and end.
• Excerpts of full-length works are INELIGIBLE.
The Timeline

The New Victory Theater, devoted to presenting outstanding performing arts from around the world for kids and families, is seeking applications from New York-based artists and companies interested in creating new work for family audiences in the areas of theater, dance, music, circus and puppetry arts.

DETAILS
New Victory LabWorks provides residency artists with the freedom to experiment, play and test ideas in the creation of new work for family audiences. Housed in the state-of-the-art New 42nd Street Studios, artists receive time, space and resources, as well as artistic feedback and support of New Victory artistic programming staff. Residency artists are also given access to an international community of artists and leaders in the field of performing arts for families and opportunities to interact with their target audience: kids themselves. The residencies are tailored to the specific needs and creative processes of each company, and may include presentations or open rehearsals for invited family audiences.

The MRT

McKinney Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce The 4th Annual MRT New Play Competition. MRT is committed to providing quality entertainment for the community through cultural education and inspiration. MRT offers the competition winner the chance to see the playwright’s work fully realized on stage, and we hope that the winning play will go on to numerous productions elsewhere as well.
Prize: An MRT committee will choose one play as the Winner to fully produce sometime in our 2014-2015 Season. A second play will be chosen as Runner-Up and that play will receive a staged reading in the 2014-2015 Season. The Winner and Runner Up will be announced on or before July 31st, 2014.

Guidelines:
1. 
Submission must be emailed in PDF format, no later than March 31, 2014. Submissions will no longer be accepted by U.S. Mail. 

2. Submissions must be accompanied by a completed and signed and legible entry form. (form attached)

3. Only original, full length, unpublished scripts will be accepted.

4. Plays must not have been previously produced nor have won awards (although previous readings are acceptable).

5. Adaptations, translations, musicals and children’s plays will not be accepted.

6. Only one submission per playwright will be accepted. In the case of multiple submissions, only the play determined by the committee to be the first submission will be considered.

7. Casts of eight or fewer are preferred. Adult casts are preferred. Please keep in mind that MRT is a family oriented theater company.

Unrenovated Theatre

Seeking 10-minute plays to be performed in an unrenovated brownstone in Brooklyn.  The space is very raw and unfinished, with tools, 2x4s, and sheets of drywall scattered about.  There’s a cast iron radiator and an old nonworking fireplace.  The space is about 15’ by 10’. If you would like to see photos, send an email to the address below.

All plays must be 5 to 15 minutes long, with no more than 4 characters.  Dramas and comedies are welcome, but all plays should be set in the space where they will be performed (no plays set on boats, for example).  The topic of the play should be somehow relevant to the space. In other words, there should be a reason your play is set in a contruction site, other than that I told you to do so.

Phoneix Stage Company

Phoenix Stage Company, located in Naugatuck, Connecticut is dedicated to providing opportunities for new playwrights to workshop, develop, and present their work as part of our regular season of plays in our black box theater.We are currently seeking full length plays and/or musicals to be included in our 2015 season.
We welcome all submissions that meet the following criteria:
-Full length plays or musicals at least ninety (90) minutes in length.
-Maximum number of performers is ten (10).
-Unit set, or minimal set requirements with simple technical needs.

Venus Theatre Festival for Women

The Venus Theater Festival is a playwright’s contest created uniquely for women. It was designed to offer women writers a chance to direct their own never-before-seen shows, helping them to develop a sense of casting, staging, use of lights and direction. With Venus, it is our intention to give female writers a unique chance to create their vision from the first stroke of their pen to the last scene of their play. Venus is not only a festival; it’s a competition as well. That means there are prizes! The winner of Best Play will receive a prize of $2,500. Winner of Best Actress will receive $500. Venus, as well as our summertime festival, Thespis, is hosted by Cabrini Repertory Theater, a beautiful, 200-seat proscenium theater in uptown Manhattan.

SPACE on Ryder Farms non-profit residency and retreat season runs each year from June through September.
Artistic residencies provide artists the opportunity to create away from the bustle of everday life and in the company of other artists. Residencies are grounded in three farm-fresh meals per day. Artists have flexibility and are strongly encouraged to structure their days to best suit the needs of their project. Artistic residencies culminate in informal sharings of what each resident has worked on during their time at SPACE.

Triple Canopy Proposals

For our fourth annual call for proposals we wish to intensify our work in a variety of offline forms of print publication and public programming. We are interested in forging connections between books, manuscripts, lectures, performances, exhibitions, among other forms, and our online publishing practice. We believe that a publishing model that engages both real-world and Web-based audiences can prompt artists and writers to develop work that is deeply considered and formally inventive.
For our 2013 call, we invite artists and writers to submit proposals for projects that may not find their primary realization on the Web, but which may ultimately be published in some form in Triple Canopy's online magazine. The following list, by no means exhaustive, enumerates some of the initial forms such projects might take:

Jane Chambers Playwriting Award

The Jane Chambers Playwriting Award recognizes plays & performance texts created by women that present a feminist perspective & contain significant opportunities for female performers.  Experimentations in form and subject matter welcome. This annual award is given in memory of lesbian playwright Jane Chambers who, through her plays such as A Late Snow, My Blue Heaven, Kudzu, & The Quintessential Image, became a major feminist voice in American theatre.
The Award for the primary Jane Chambers Contest consists of $1000, free registration to attend the Association in Theater in Higher Education’s conference in early August & a rehearsed reading of the winning piece at that conference, hosted by WTP, with ATHE. The winner should attend the conference’s awards ceremony. The student winner is also recognized.

Fly-By-Night Theatre is always on the lookout for new works. And though we prefer to work with artists local to the North Carolina Triad area, we are happy and willing to work with like-minded artists anywhere.
Here are some ground rules for all submissions:
Please keep in mind that we do exclusively new work, and by new  we mean unproduced.
We are active collaborators. We aren't going to rewrite your piece for you, nor are we after any authorial credit or future production percentages or any of that nonsense – but we are a process-oriented group. Please just understand that going in.
If we agree to work with you on your piece, we will pay you a small stipend. We're really open to any length. Full-length plays (75-120 pages) are your best bet, but we'll look at one-acts as well. We tend to favor plays that are ambitious in form and content over the standard family/relationship squabble, but we'll look at anything.
HOW TO SUBMIT: Send us a brief synopsis (anywhere from a sentence to a page) and the first ten pages in format of your play, each in PDF format.

INTRODUCTION
The rich and the poor. The rebels and the regime. The fighters and the bystanders. Women across the Arab world have had a myriad of experiences amid revolution. We want these stories to be told, and we can’t do it without great writers!
These stories can be told through comedy or drama, satire or gritty realism. The key is that it’s a woman’s story, and the rest is up to you.
We know this is a subject that lots of people are interested in but don’t know much about…. but fear not. The team at Swivel can help you at every step of the process, whether it is coming up with the initial idea or finding research materials.
Like so many good things, there are guidelines. We want scripts that are less than 30 pages, and they all need to be emailed to us by 4th March 2013 to swiveltheatre@live.co.uk. Earlier entries are welcome!

-Writers are encouraged to keep set and technical direction to a minimum, plays must be feasible for performance on a limited budget.

Scripts must be submitted by 5.00pm on 4th March 2013, but we will accept scripts earlier on a rolling basis. Writers should include a 100 word summary of the plot, as well as their CV within the email

Writers can submit more than one script, up to a maximum of 5. We will shortlist a selection of scripts, and shortlisted writers will be invited to interview and meet with the company.

National Association of Latino Arts and Culture

Launched in 2005 by the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures with major support from the Ford Foundation, the NALAC Fund for the Arts provides a variety of grants to assist US-based Latino artists and arts organizations in the development, creation, presentation and sustainability of artistic excellence, as well as the opportunity to participate in activities that contribute to professional and organizational growth.
The NFA is a national grant program open to US-based Latino working artists, ensembles and Latino arts organizations that demonstrate artistic excellence in pursuit of social justice through the arts. To date, the NFA has awarded over one million dollars to a diverse range of artists and organizations representing every discipline and region of the country. Applying to the NFA is a benefit of NALAC Membership.
NFA ARTIST AND ENSEMBLE GRANTS
NFA Grants for Latino Artists and Ensembles support the work of individual artists and ensembles in all disciplines. The NFA offers two grant categories for artists and ensembles: Project Grant and Master Artist Grant. Open to Latino artists and ensembles in the United States.
The NFA Artist/Ensemble Project Grant supports artists whose work demonstrates excellence and the potential for impacting the Latino arts field. This grant is designed to recognize excellence in an artist's body of work and nurture the creative and professional development of the artist.Grant funds may be used to support creation, development and/or presentation of work; equipment purchases necessary for artistic production; research and travel; professional or career development; living and studio expenses; technical support, studio assistance or collaborations; documentation, production expenses and maintenance.
The NFA Master Artist Grant recognizes established Latino artists for their cultural contributions and significance in their communities and also provides support that enables the Master Artist to serve as a mentor to another artist in their professional and artistic development. The Master Artist Grant will be awarded to support an exemplary mentor-mentee project that enables knowledge and skill transfer between a Master artist and a mentee artist.

GUIDELINES FOR WRITERS

Playwrights Horizons accepts unsolicited manuscripts of full-length, original plays by living American writers.
As a writers’ theater who believes there are as many distinctive styles and voices as there are playwrights, we remain open to as wide a range of plays — and approaches to playwriting — as possible.  We are looking for idiosyncratic, accomplished, original theatrical voices.
Ultimately, of course tastes are always subjective, but here are some guidelines that may help determine whether a play is right for us:  As a rule, we do not produce adaptations (musicals excepted), translations, children’s theater, screenplays, musicals without original scores, one-acts (or collections of one-acts, thematically linked or not).   We tend not to produce plays of a chiefly biographical or historical nature or plays that are primarily topical “issue” plays.  Playwrights Horizons does not produce plays that have already received New York City productions.  We respond primarily to plays with a sure command of language and a clear dramatic action that truly use the resources of the theater.
If you wish to submit a play, please include a complete manuscript, bio, resume, and any other print supporting materials (e.g. reviews) that might help pique our interest in you and your work.  If you would like your script returned, you may also include a SASE.
We don’t consider synopses and dialogue samples and will not respond to them.  We also don’t accept unsolicited scripts via email.
Due to the small size of our staff and the sheer number of scripts we receive, we are only able to accept one script at a time from the same author and cannot consider resubmissions, including those which have been significantly revised. Thanks in advance for your patience while we process your script; our typical response time is 6-8 months.

The Purple Rose is dedicated to the development and production of new plays and emerging playwrights. We receive hundreds of synopses and inquiries each season, and our staff reviews each submission.
If a synopsis submission shows promise for possible production, a full script will be requested. Each requested script is read by at least two of our readers, so a waiting period of seven to nine months for a response is not uncommon.

ObamAmerica Festival (London)

Over Here Theatre Company is seeking submissions of fifteen minute plays for ObamAmerica, a festival of new writing to be produced at Theatre 503 in London in the spring of 2014. The festival, which will run 27 May to 7 June, is about life under the Obama administration, looking at all aspects from political to personal.
Barack Obama is a powerful and charismatic figure, one whose election promised great change and provided hope for a difference to American society and the world at large after eight years under George W Bush.  Did Obama fulfill those dreams of the American people or has he offered more of the same?  Has foreign policy changed?  Race relations? How have President and Mrs Obama affected the way society sees African Americans?  Is he really on the side of the poor or caught up in the machinations of Capitol Hill? What about his controversial use of drones and the assassination of Osama Bin Laden? ObamAmerica will explore a wide variety of viewpoints and issues through thought provoking and entertaining short plays.

Over Here is accepting submissions from both new and more seasoned playwrights. Playwrights need not be American but should have an ear for the uniqueness of American speech patterns and a good knowledge of the United States. Although this is not a paid opportunity, selected plays will receive a full production.
